Played percussively, the piano is a bore… the goal is to make the piano sing, sing, sing.

– VLADIMIR HOROWITZ (1903 – 1989)

At Clavier Music & Art, the most common question that new parents ask us is “What instrument should my child start with?”, and our belief is: when in doubt, start with the piano.

Why?

It is easy to sound

It could not be any easier to get a sound out of the piano – you press a piano key.

Assists in note learning

Notes on the keyboard are laid out from low to high pitch, making it great for students to learn note-reading.

Tuning and maintenance

Although the piano is initially an expensive investment compared to most instruments, a good piano should not need part replacements or repairs for decades. Under normal use with annual tunings, pianos are generally worry-free and sturdy instruments offering many years of enjoyment.
